Sambalpur Zoo and Conservation Centre (SZCC), Sambalpur is one of the important Zoos in the State. Started as a Deer Park in the year 1980, over a period of time, this ex-situ conservation center has gradually transformed to a zoological park which houses more than 350 numbers of animals belonging to 18 species. Recently Blackbuck & Hog Deer have been housed in the Zoo. The Master Plan of Sambalpur Zoo for the year 2023-24 to 2042-43 has been approved by the CZA, New Delhi vide Computer No. 146991 dt. 14.12.2023. The zoo spreads over 13.58 ha of area, with good cover of natural forests, which makes the animals to be in a natural environment. Further this zoo is the only wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre in Western Odisha and most of the rescued animals from the forests of Western Odisha are being brought here for successful rehabilitation. The zoo has a lot of success stories regarding conservation breeding of Chousingha, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear etc.
